Our Approach

The Broadneck Trail Feasibility Study involved comprehensive environmental and cultural resource surveys to support the development of a 2.5-mile asphalt trail in Anne Arundel County, Maryland. Straughan was subcontracted to perform wetland, forest, and archeological surveys. These surveys identified and characterized 17 Waters of the US and wetlands, as well as 21 forest stands, while also completing a Phase I archaeological survey.

Key project highlights included the avoidance and minimization of environmental impacts, such as avoiding impacts to wetlands and streams, thereby eliminating the need for permitting or mitigation. Straughan also prepared a Critical Area Consistency Review application and managed mitigation planting plans. The project was partially funded by a Federal grant, requiring Straughan to prepare a Federal Highway Administration Programmatic Categorical Exclusion.

Through meticulous field documentation and collaboration with local authorities, Straughan ensured the project adhered to all regulatory requirements, ultimately supporting the successful planning and future construction of the Broadneck Trail.
