Our Approach
In support of the WMATA Station Platform Rehabilitation Program 4 – Design-Build Services project, Straughan provided environmental permitting and cultural resource investigation services. Straughan conducted field investigations five stations to perform a wetland and waterways delineation identifying jurisdictional wetlands and other “waters of the US” and used a global positioning system to survey the locations of resource boundaries. Straughan coordinated extensively with permitting agencies in Maryland and Washington, DC (MDE, USACE, DOEE) to ensure the most efficient permitting process and we coordinated with the engineer to reduce impacts to resources to allow for a more streamlined permitting process. Modifications to the permit applications were submitted to address design changes, and the project was completed ahead of schedule and under budget.
Straughan completed a cultural resource assessment for each of the WMATA DB4 project areas to assist in the determination of whether the project would affect historic properties. Based on information collected from previous archeological surveys completed within the limits of disturbance for the project, we recommended no additional archeological investigations. In addition, Straughan conducted a Hazardous Substances Desktop Data Review, reviewing environmental data reports and mapping and the EDR report from Sanborn Mapping.
