Our Approach

Straughan supported stream and wetland mitigation monitoring at the Israel Creek (FR-06) and Tennyson Wetland Mitigation Bank (SM-05) sites as part of a restoration project in Frederick County. The goal was to assess performance of constructed stream and wetland features designed to meet MDOT SHA’s TMDL compliance and USACE permit requirements. Straughan conducted monitoring during Year 3 and is scheduled to return for Year 5 of the monitoring cycle.

Straughan’s role included visual inspection of 35 in-stream structures, MBSS aquatic habitat assessments, vegetation and invasive species surveys, and geomorphic function analysis at three stream reach locations. Wetland areas were evaluated through stratified vegetation plots, soil and hydrology assessments, and boundary delineations to confirm wetland establishment. This work ensures the restored stream and floodplain complex continues to meet ecological goals and permitting conditions.
