Our Approach
As part of a joint venture team, Straughan is supporting Baltimore County’s shoreline enhancement program to stabilize eroding shorelines, reduce pollutant loads, and restore tidal habitats. These efforts contribute to the County’s Watershed Implementation Plan (WIP) and National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) MS4 permit goals. Projects include full design services, ecological assessments, concept development, alternatives analysis, cost estimating, and assistance with crediting for stormwater BMPs.
Currently, Straughan is working on two tasks under this contract. At Oak Road Park, Straughan is designing 1,580 linear feet of shoreline stabilization and enhancement, including replacement of a fishing pier and implementation of nature-based stabilization features. At Watersedge Park, our team evaluated 2,300 linear feet of previously restored shoreline that experienced vegetation loss and developed alternative designs to improve site resilience. Straughan is also assisting with the design of artificial reef elements to strengthen shoreline protection and enhance aquatic habitat.
