Our Approach
Lyndhurst PreK-8 Elementary/Middle School is an approximately 35,000 SF renovation and 104,000 SF addition to the Lyndhurst Elementary School in Baltimore City as part of the 21st Century Schools modernization program of Baltimore City Public Schools. Straughan provided technical expertise, guidance, and LEED coordination to the architect and design project team during schematic and design phases of this project.
We developed a LEED strategy using the Integrative Design process, prepared green building plans, provided LEED calculations, attended meetings, and developed LEED credit strategies. Straughan led the project team in the development of sustainability goals and worked together with the entire project team to ensure the project met the LEED Silver goal and used energy, water, and resources efficiently. We conducted sustainability workshops and coordinated with the project team and owner, including working closely with the mechanical designer to achieve energy goals and receive BGE energy rebates. Straughan reviewed design changes and provided feedback to the project team. We were utlimately responsible for achieving the LEED goals for the design team and completing all LEED documentation in the online LEED system. This project achieved a LEED certification at the gold level, exceeding the project goal of LEED Silver.
